... For the loyal legions of Barry-boosters (which includes one Roy Thomas, but definitely), I decided to use the fourth issue to showcase a Smith-drawn epic called The Dweller in the Dark, originally written and drawn in 1971 for the black-and-white medium but only printed to date in color (as Conan the Barbarian #12) - and badly printed, at that, so that few but the most perceptive fan-critics ever noticed that it contained some of the finest Smith artwork ever. Since Barry had made me a gift of the original art for that story, I thought it was high time it got the recognition it had always deserved.
